Twist it any way you want - the Macan EV is much more expensive than the ICE version, and IMHO that is hurting its sales results.

Comparing apples to apples: In the US Macan 4 starts at $78,800, a comparable spec, though slightly less powerful, ICE Macan S starts at $76,200. So the difference is $2,600. Is that considered much more expensive on an $76K car?

Correct. As I said earlier, if majority of Macan buyers choose the cheapest, slowest, base SUV with a Porsche badge, then yes, Macan EV is more expensive. Now the question is what percentage of Macan ICE are base trim.

Except it’s NOT just the lower trims…

The “top of the line” Macan EV Turbo also starts at $16K+ more than the “top of the line” Macan GTS ICE…

Because Macan EV tops out at a higher trim than available on Macan ICE. Even by Porsche naming convention Turbo is a higher trim than GTS. When you look at the specs between the two, it's clear.

Bottom line is if you're not looking for the bottom of the range, and you are shopping for specs rather than trim badge prestige, Macan EV is not much more expensive. If you're looking for top spec, ICE Macan doesn't even have a comparable trim.

Easy to take the Macan 4 and stick a Macan S badge on it. It will take on any actual Macan S from a red light with ease.

I missed this point - what exactly makes Macan EV a lesser car than Macan ICE? It's not a actual Porsche unless it has an exhaust rule, might as well be a Hyundai?

from a HP and performance perspective the Macan EV is better value than the ICE macan in my opinion - there are cheaper entry point ICE macan but i doubt anyone on the Taycan forum would say they are “good cars” - crappy engines, terrible throttle lag, expensive to maintain, mediocre gas milage, slow acceleration, mediocre transmissions and blah exhaust notes - the cheaper Macan ICE trims are badge exercises not really porsche performance products…the EVs on the other hand see world class and will embarrass any Macan ICE trim

people shopping the low end Macan's are buying a Porsche badge, but very often lack driving experience or actual seat time to "know" what makes a good car or could tell the difference - they just wanted something more upscale than the Audi Q3/Q5 and Porsche is a "'step up" - but the low end ICE Macan's are not anything the would make anyone on this forum "happy"…and in addition to the excessive price and mediocre Porsche stats you get Porsche's terrible software and at least two generations back in terms of PCM and driving aids…

the Macan @ $63,100K (zero to 60 in 6 seconds) and the Macan T $68,770 (zero to 60 in 5.8 sec) (both 261 HP) is Porsche milking the brand awareness, pure and simple, and trying to hit a price point that won't scare people off that honestly, probably don't know any better.

if you think these cars are better cars because they are cheaper than the Macan EV - more power to you -but from what I've seen on this forum in 4+ years of participation is NO ONE on this forum would consider the base Macan ICE or Macan T a super good example of what you pay the Porsche Premimum for, and in exchange for the price you get some seriously outdated tech that makes the 2020 Taycan look sophisticated.
