given Porsche's recent facination with pricing themselves out of competition and their general lack of enthusiasm for things EV…this could be a replacment for my Cayenne Hybrid in 2026/2027…and I hate the Lucid Air - but bring me Lucid Saphire driving dynamic's with SUV class space (120 cubic/feet - more passenger room than a Chevy Suburban) - $132k fully optioned - 450 miles range - 350 kW charging…

yeah Porsche has got problems, and driving dynamics - well most likely the gap has been closed…

if they continue down this path - they may end up where they started - with only 911's as an offering…

A Cayenne EV at more than $150k (probably a lot more based on what I'm seeing with Taycan pricing) from a company that seems to wish for the past rather than embrace the future…hmmm…

going to be interesting the next 5+ years…
Perhaps stateside but not on sale in UK and possibly not many places in Europe.

Where do you get it repaired?
  • For software fixes -> in my garage, while I'm sleeping (OTA)
  • For hardware fixes
    • at a Lucid service for the hard ones (like the brake line recall)
    • for a lot of fixes perhaps they will follow Tesla ranger model, which I loved by the way - you make an appointment, they give me a 2-3 hr time window, tech shows up at my house, repairs the car in my garage
Thinking back on my Taycan ownership, most repairs so far would have happened in my garage, while I sleep, or while I watch the tech.

just to be clear - my opinion is not based solely on on this _THIS_ vehicle - but rather what this vehicle represents:
  • it's quick
  • it's spacious
  • it's "upscale"
  • it has driving dynamics
  • it has working software
  • it has better range
  • world class EV motors
  • it has functional OTA
  • it's a ground up design with many benefits (look at the volume of space)
it's 1/2 the cost of any similiar Porsche offering

it's not going to be the only one

it's running towards the future

VW/Audi/Porsche are running from the future…

as to if this particular vehicle will appeal to you, me, or anyone else

there are going to be more EV's like this, not fewer…

and VW/Audi/Porsche have what?

Is the sky really falling? Is the cup half full or empty? As a newish Taycan owner I will only offer (this is my sixth Porsche and forth EV) that what Porsche has 100% right is that the Taycan is a sports car that happens to be electric and focuses on the driving stuff rather than a driving computer. Most who buy a Porsche want the driving and handling to be what Porsche offers. Full stop.

Why does it bother you IF VAG or any other brand falls behind?

At the moment they are closing factories and/or scaling back production. :(
and scaling back in China due to stiff competition…

according to many many people who've driven it the Lucid Air Saphire has closed the gap, and actually exceed Porsche's driving dynamics…

from early reviews the Gravity builds on the Saphire's driving dynamics but moves it to the people mover form factor…

because it didn't have to go this way…and it will be a pity if we lose Porsche as a contributing force to the industry…but apparently they are going to do what they are going to do…just a pity when I see people/institutions fail to avoid foreseeable outcomes…but it's the way of things.

I love my 911's they will be the last to be replaced with another brand.

I guess it is big enough to swallow a coffin ?
I wouldn't take a Gravity or an Air over a Taycan - but compared to a Cayenne (and the needs it fits) it could be done - we'll see how it gets refined over the years…but I was shocked at how "cheap" it was with all the options vs. Porsche's offerings, and mechanically/driving dynamics the Air Saphire is better than Taycan in driving dynamics by all accounts…and a much more upscale interior offering, and software/tech light years ahead - so we're down to styling but no functional advantages and 2x the price.

like I said - gonna be an interesting 5+ years to see how this plays out…

Which EV's have you owned? Have you ever driven the Saphire?
