given that the MTBF on the Taycan OBC 19.2 kW units is about 12 seconds (and is/was under recall, was unavailable for replacement, was then available again, then it wasn't, and then Porsche would reimburse for a downgrade, and then was no longer offered, and to this day is still absent as an option on the Taycan or Macan) - they seem to be taking another run at this - haven't seen the 22 kW option in other markets - but the 19.2 kW version is currently an option for North America…

this hardly inspires confidence.

this will be interesting to watch play out…

I thought about adding this but there aren't many NA chargers that support this are there? I guess the same story goes for 800v.

19.2 kW EVSE's in North America are a rare bird - but not impossible - just very very very rare…it's good for home charging and is 2x faster if you have a 100 amp home EVSE…

800V is "da norm" for most FastCharger's these days if they are more than 100 kW max charge speed…

Tesla's Supercharger's (V3/V4) are mostly 400V chargers…

this option was discussed extensively on the Taycan forums and it's a toss up as to if it's worth it…if you know you have access to 19.2 kW chargers (home or work or business) it's a great option - if you're purchasing in the hopes of "finding" 19.2 kW while you're away from home - it will be rarely use.

I've never felt the need for more than about 7 kW even with an inefficient Rivian R1T. I know to each their own. However, if 19.2 kW is BI-DIRECTIONAL then this is very useful for backup power for a home.

when I've owned "faster" charging EV's (Model S/X w/19.2 kW and Taycan w/11 kW) I would find it useful 3-6 times a year - also sometimes when using someone elses EVSE it was nicer to have the faster turn around time…

there is no doubt that for normal daily use + overnight charging charge speed does not matter as long as the EV is ready in the morning…

but a few times a year it's nice to bang out 80% as fast as possible for "quicker" turn around…

the problem with this feature is lack of infrastructure - and 19.2 kW is _NOT_ the trend - and fastCharging is becoming very very available so it's gettting less and less necessary to find a 19.2 kW EVSE…
