Hi,

stumbled across old Porsche press release while looking for some new Cayenne EV news. As a previous Macan EV owner, software updates have been a sour topic. Seems still (old news) no over the air updates for Cayenne EV firmware or operating system (not necessarily a bad thing, last thing you want to do is to brick your car yourself - Macan EV already did a pretty good job doing it by itself) but update process seems simplified. Much faster and more efficient however can mean anything, usually manufacturer put in numbers if they achieved meaningful progress.

"Thanks to the Cayenne's new electronic architecture, the vehicle software can be installed much faster and more efficiently than was the case with the previous generation. Flashing – the name for the process of updating the firmware or operating system – enables each car to be delivered with the latest software version."

I don't interpret the press release in the same manner. Yes they flash load during production but this does not preclude OTA updates. Even a Tesla will have the initial software flash loaded.

That being said I don't know if Porsche has moved on from old school systems with discrete processors. They've not boasted about central compute or zonal architecture so I think they are still behind the curve here.

If Cayenne would have OTA, it wouldn't be important at all to emphasise that the latest software version has been installed before delivery. Think about iPhones, they don't have necessarily the latest firmware or software installed. Question is, does this only relate to factory or include handover process (latest firmware end of production vs. latest firmware at handover). The article is written for the factory, I agree.
