Are we helping in the fight against climate change or just indulging our love of toys (er technology)?

Definitely, efficiency is always an important aim. I hate waste.

Are we helping in the fight against climate change or just indulging our love of toys (er technology)?

True we need complete lifetime low wastage and even IC engined cars are getting much better at using recyclable materials in their build. I was disappointed to see this this morning, ie climate change deniers and sceptical scientists are rare but are PR company funded by the oil industry which...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

Indeed I looked at chrono24 and yes 1960s Daytonas go for 10x similar aged Speedmasters except the super rare ones. I don’t think it has much to do with current availability new though, more rarity. Rolex didn’t have a chronograph movement back then so they were made in tiny numbers with a...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

Since Rolex were set up as a marketing company they have always been advertised as a premium watch and I think most people have recognised them as a status symbol for decades. The amazing increase in what people pay for a stainless steel one is due to Rolex recognising how easy it is to...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

Since Rolex embraced manipulating the collector market their value is probably more volatile than brands that never did in times of financial unpredictability. The new approach by Patek and Audemars may afflict their appropriate models similarly.

    Music on Collection Day

That’ll be me too. Despite being a music lover who listens at home a lot I hardly ever listen to music in a car apart from on a (rare nowadays) long trip on cruise control :)

    Taycan v hybrid options

My analysis of my requirements has always come up with a plug in hybrid as the optimum so far. Our current PHEV does about 35 miles on a charge which covers most journeys I do so I only fill up with petrol infrequently but it gives me good freedom on our trips up to the north of Scotland for...

A Taycan Owner Buys a Tesla: Informal Battle of Two (Very Different) EVs!

Sh!t, I've never had a car with a niggly software issue. Hope the Taycan doesn't turn out to be an unreliable disappointment.

    Rented a Model Y

Going to/through range mode automatically engages Eco AC. Maybe it is one of the settings which does not change to a default when re-starting.

    Cross shopping w Lucid

The EQS is a weirdo for me. I find it convenient to have a 5-door car for the rare occasion I need to take extra people but always have my dog in the back. The EQS is far more a limo aimed at people who hire a chauffeur and ride in the back than a drivers car and so a lot of the niceness is...

    Rented a Model Y

I think the big problem with non-Tesla software is history. The first electronic parts with processors in were probably ignition and ABS, later fuel management but when stability control got added a central controller was needed and I don’t think, both because of existing parts and the options...

    Other Hobbies

I used to go every year with my brother decades ago but nowadays almost no salmon in Scotland. I only tied trout flies though, and making a reel - splendid!

    Rented a Model Y

I have one pedal driving on my Husqvarna ride on mower and I am sort of used to it now but didn’t like it at all on a car. I can see the software is much simpler if the brake pedal doesn’t need to blend in regeneration and friction brakes but one of the reasons I wouldn’t have a Tesla is it not...

    Rented a Model Y

Panamera, Cayenne and Macan are Porsche's version of a VAG group platform. 718, 911 and Taycan are Porsches so not the same constraints.

New Taycan and new Panamera under one roof ….our debate is underway!

I have only done done demo drives and much preferred the Taycan to the Panamera though it could be expectation bias since I know the Panamera is built on a VW group platform (shared with quite a few othe VW group cars) whereas the Taycan chassis is a Porsche engineering project :)

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

Because of scatter gun marketing everybody has heard of Rolex, so probably more risky to wear than watches from the smaller top makers which most people have never heard of!
