Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

But what is the domestic price you pay at home? Mine more than doubled, I pay around €0.39 per kWh at home and €0.85 per kWh at a fast charger last week.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Yes, I misread. Taycan CT suits my requirements perfectly. No 911 model does. If Porsche do an EV Boxter which isn’t as vast and heavy as 911s have become that may be interesting.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Really? I thought we were the only ones to get a 150% increase in electricity cost.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Ferraris weren’t either, recent Lambos have been and I haven’t seen a Corvette in decades, they don’t import them here. I did think the 911 wide body was an abomination, and they are all that big now. :( I tried a 993, which was a good size but bigger and slower than the TVR Griffith I...

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

That was a big attraction when I ordered but following huge energy price rises here due to Ukraine war EVs are no longer cheap to run here in the UK.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

No. 911 rear seats are pretty well useless. I don’t want a car with a big rear cabin but I do sometimes need to take passengers with legs.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Probably fun, yes, but they aren’t similar from my POV. If I was considering a 911 the other options would be 2 door sports cars (in fact they were when I did consider one ;)) not 4 seater saloons. I considered the Bentley Continental, Merc S-class hybrid and Audi E-Tron GT, when I chose the...

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

That is why I wrote “fairly”. Most so called sports cars are heavy these days. Loads of electric gadgets, complex engines and crash structures pretty well guarantee it. Passing crash rules and lightness makes it very expensive. Cars have got very big now too.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

It it had been a 2 door and still that vast I would have had nothing but contempt for it and wouldn’t have looked at one, never mind had a test drive.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Really? A 911 would be pretty well useless for me, particularly the recent wide bodied turbo engined ones whereas the Taycan was and is pretty ideal.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

I bet they looked into it but making a car light is very, very much more expensive than adding horsepower, which is fairly easy, so few do it. There really aren’t many lightweight cars for sale these days.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

There is around a 600kg weight difference anyway. From a vehicle dynamics POV the comparison is absurdly inappropriate, ridiculous even. I can’t imagine a potential buyer considering a 911 GTS and a Taycan GTS as alternatives to buy. I certainly would not. If I wanted a (fairly) lightweight 2...

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

Low weight is the most important thing in a sports car at the track. On a F1 car each extra 10kg of weight adds around 0.35 secs per lap, or it did during the 35 years I ran them, it may be a tad less in the higher level of hybrid era today. IME the benefit of an EV is instant throttle...

From Audi RS e-tron GT to Taycan GTS ST

The vast majority of the comparisons I have seen favour the Taycan. I preferred part, but not all, of the cabin ergonomics of the Audi when I drove them but not the driving feel - the Taycan was so much better to drive I was shocked, given the drivetrain and suspension are identical apart from...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

PMFJI, I don't hate Rolex watches but am annoyed by their manipulation of their market to keep prices way higher than they ought to be, given production quantities and manufacturing technique. They are very good watches but mass produced in way higher numbers than any other "high end" maker and...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

For me the high price isn’t a big problem if there is good longevity. Most digital electronics today becomes unservicable fairly quickly and has a high replacement rate. 25 years ago I paid 911 money for a pair of loudspeakers which I still enjoy several hours a day. 7 years ago I bought some...

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

I thought it was a bit daft, one of the two reasons I got rid of the iWatch.

Thinking of going back to ICE

I had sort of justified the high cost of the battery by thinking I had bought my first 3 years worth of “petrol” included in the cost of the car, with the cost of charging being almost negligible. By the time I picked it up the cost of charging had become very expensive and the much vaunted...

I have the green one and a more conventional size and weight one, I alternate.

Watch collectors - let's talk watches here!

While I had an iWatch it was one of those which didn’t display all the time and I ended up with it on my right wrist and a “proper” watch on my left. In the end the touch screen face had the” jack of all trades master of the unwanted selection” too often and I gave it to my son. I use a...
