  1. Taycan CT vs Hummer EV

The issue is that most people do not know the difference between the coefficient of drag and drag force and when and how to use them. Frontal areas for different vehicles can be found along with their Cd's. A quick check finds the frontal areas for Tesla's. So I can easily put together a...
  2. Taycan CT vs Hummer EV

Yes it does. See below, especially the fourth paragraph. Drag is measured experimentally. Substitute into the equation, rearrange and solve for Cd.
  3. Taycan CT vs Hummer EV

Cd includes the frontal area so is unique to the geometry of the car. These kinds of dimensionless constants are common throughout physics and engineering.
  4. Taycan CT vs Hummer EV

There are some studies out there on the effect of reducing ride height on the Cd for Teslas which should be a good proxy for the Taycan. One study here puts it at a reduction in Cd of around 8% for a reduction in ride height of 1.5 inches. But the details of how the Cd for the Taycan were...
  5. Turmoil at VW: Porsches Postponed by Buggy Software Cost VW’s CEO His Job

Within 10 minutes I have seen articles that say he lost his job because he pushed electrification and upset too many powers, to he didn't get the software right so was holding up electrification.
  6. Are we helping in the fight against climate change or just indulging our love of toys (er technology)?

Yeah. It's called the Quaternary aka ice age. CO2 levels ran from about 150ppm to 300ppm as the climate cycled back and forth between cooling and warming periods. Concentration is now 417 ppm and climbing, Based on the past 2 million years, the most likely result is a warmer climate and...
  7. Are we helping in the fight against climate change or just indulging our love of toys (er technology)?

This leaves the impression that wealthy countries aren't the problem. But as their electricity demands are so much larger than poor countries, their carbon contribution will be much higher. Here are just a few numbers from the internet for electricity production from wealthy countries UK...
  8. Are we helping in the fight against climate change or just indulging our love of toys (er technology)?

It's less about the EV and more about how electricity is generated in your area to fuel the EV. If from water, solar, wind, nuclear then you are not adding additional carbon dioxide. If from carbon based fuels you are still part of the problem.
  9. Taycan v Hyundai Ioniq 6

Points out the issue regarding Teslas. A good car, lot's of them around but they mostly look alike with limited options to customize. Leaves people starving for variety.
  10. Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV? - Article

Follow the money. Whenever anyone promotes something, ask who provides their funding and who won't they take money from. There's always an agenda and some are better than others.
  11. DeLorean Alpha5 electric car unveiled to rival Porsche Taycan

I like dreaming too. Then I wake up in the morning and reality sets in. True for more than just cars.
  12. Is mandatory speed limiting in EU starting in 2022-24 really a thing?

I already have one of those. It's called a wife.
  13. Porsche Landjet 2025 "a [7-seat]] EV capable of going about 404 miles on a charge" - article link

It's going to need a new battery and more efficient motors.
  14. Lucid Air reaches 500 miles in real-world 70 mph range test

You are just taking about range under near optimal conditions. Sure you can charge as many times as required to make a trip, but not charging is more convenient. And don't forget that relative large pickup in range is also going to exist at very high and very low temperatures where the Taycan...
  15. Lucid Air reaches 500 miles in real-world 70 mph range test

I've dated uglier girls. (Internet date).
  16. Lucid Air reaches 500 miles in real-world 70 mph range test

A massive technological breakthrough? No. But a generational advance yes. A smaller battery for the same range and smaller motors with less weight opens up huge possibilities. Just imagine the handling in a Taycan with 500/1000 lbs. less weight.
  17. Lucid Air reaches 500 miles in real-world 70 mph range test

At first look this is how it happens as compared to the Taycan RWD which has the longest range of all the Taycans. The Lucid effective battery size is 34.3% larger than the Taycan. (118 kWh vs 83.7 kWh) The Lucid appears to be about 16% more efficient than the Taycan. (236 watts per mile vs...
  18. New Mercedes Vision EQXX...Look at all familiar?

Was watching one of the videos. It looks like Mercedes tackled many of the problems that affect an EV's range. - increased battery charge density - reduced battery weight and size - reduced car weight through smart design - great aero
  19. New Mercedes Vision EQXX...Look at all familiar?

This looks like it follows the Form Follows Function principle. Aero requirements may require a change in fashion.
