Tesla Model S price increases to $89,990

At $69k, it was pretty competitive. At $89k it's losing a lot of appeal, especially with the other vehicles hitting the market in the next 6-18 months. BMW i4, Lucid Air, Audi A6 E-tron, etc. It's now pushing Taycan 4S and MB EQS pricing. The Model X may be even worse at $99k. The Rivian R1S...

If you’re bored sometime - go test drive a Model 3

This right here ^^^^^ The Model 3 has EV performance, and the fact that it's an EV going for it. If an electric M2, S4, and C43 were on sale right now, the Model 3 would be seriously out matched. I drove a Model 3 performance, and it was a blast to drive, but the interior is on par with a...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

We never towed anything with the X. So a couple of things. Most of my road trips outside of the city are on fast open highways with 75mph speed limits (Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Iowa, Arizona) and I tend to drive 5-10 over, or in the mountains with elevation and temperature extremes. So...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

We are super excited about the Rivian. We have a First Edition reservation and plan on getting the Launch Green. When my wife and I first moved to Colorado we did a lot of backcountry camping in a high ground clearance SUV. Ever since having kids we’ve had city SUV’s unable to get back to these...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Here is the efficiency data for all three cars. Keep in mind I typically drive the Taycan in Sport Plus mode and much more aggressively than my wife drives the E-tron, or the Model X previously. Our Model X data from the Michigan road trip along with the overall data (trip B was the Michigan...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

We had a 2018 Model X 100D with the 22" wheels and the six seat configuration. I know the 22" wheels have an impact on range, but my Taycan Turbo S has the 21" Mission E wheels as well and gets much better efficiency. The interior space was great, but without the ability to put a roof rack on...

Brand New Tesla Model S Plaid Breaks Down: Report According to the video, during driving, it displayed a message on the instrument cluster: "Pull over safely, vehicle is shutting down, the electrical system is unable to support all features." The driver reports that he had to stop in the middle...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Porsche will never be a leader in software and user interfaces. They never have been. They also aren't the leader in luxury. In the sub-$200k price point that probably goes to Mercedes. Tesla = best software Mercedes = best luxury Porsche = best driver engagement Everyone else is a mix. The...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Tesla is the best at software no doubt, but OTA updates are overrated. In the 2 years I owned a Model X nothing that significant was upgraded. Mostly software fixes. in terms of range I would argue Porsche has delivered. In real world tests the Taycan is very close to the Model S, but charges...

    Vaporware salesman Elon

I like Tesla as a company, and I generally like Tesla vehicles. I would include any Tesla in my list of vehicles to recommend to someone interested in buying an EV. What I don't like is the over promises from Elon. I also don't like Elon in general (mostly related to his Twitter posts. Yes I...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

I originally was going to custom order a Turbo with an MSRP of around $175k. It was going to be 5 months for delivery and my dealer wasn't willing to negotiate on the price. This was August of 2020. They had a brand new Turbo S that the customer decided not to take delivery on, and they were...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

The acceleration of the older Model S Performance, the Plaid, the Taycan Turbo, and Turbo S is basically unusable for anything other than showing off or on a race track. Obviously a lot of people will pay serious money to simply show off, so I'm sure a lot of buyers will buy one simply for...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

I'm skeptical of the "carbon sleeve" rotors as well. They have a 23,000+ RPM redline at 200mph. Tesla is the best at software, good at batteries, but terrible in mechanical design. I will be interested to see how these new Plaid motors hold up over time.

0-60 in 2.45 seconds is the real result. That’s what you get when driving around town. The 2.07 seconds is a party trick that takes 10 minutes of preparation. I’ll be curious to see if Tesla puts limits on the drag mode in the future. Kinda like Nissan with the GTR and putting limits on the...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

I'm less worried about the top speed, and more worried about the 0-100mph acceleration. When that only takes a couple of seconds, people can get into trouble fast. Whether punching it as a passing maneuver or just showing off to friends, hitting 100mph on normal roads in an instant is really...

Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Seems very impressive. I'm still skeptical after my Tesla experience, but I might consider one in the future. The main reason I wouldn't buy one as currently spec'ed is the silly yoke steering wheel and lack of luxury features that I prefer. They were 6 months late launching Plaid, and based...

Car & Driver: 4S vs. Tesla MS LR+

One more interesting observation from Bjorn is his range test of the Audi E-tron GT versus the Porsche Taycan 4S. The E-tron GT was equipped with 21" wheels and the 4S had the 19" wheels. The 4S has a range of 264 miles at 120km/hr and the E-tron GT went 235 miles at 120km/hr. So it's...

Car & Driver: 4S vs. Tesla MS LR+

It looks like they updated the article. I'm pretty sure originally it showed the Taycan range with the 180 mile result. Thanks for pointing that out.

Car & Driver: 4S vs. Tesla MS LR+

Instead of range tests I wish these journalists would conduct road trip tests. Maybe a 300-500 mile out and back road trip along a route with similar charging infrastructure. This at least incorporates charging speed into the equation. The Taycan's charging speed makes up for a bit less...
