Never really considered Tesla. Poor quality cabin and models S & X no longer made in RHD. Weird decision by Tesla excluding a significant market. All the better for Porsche!
I’m hoping it’s very similar to the Mission R. It’s a dedicated (albeit VAG) ev platform in so no reason why not. It needs to be a radical step on from Cayma in my view.
I never understood Porsche saying they’ll never make a 911 ev. The popularity of the Taycan must surely change their minds? I’ll definitely reserve an electric Cayman but suspect it’s two years away realistically. Until then a Taycan will do … tough life??
My understanding is that the Porsche J1 platform was derived from the MSB platform that underpinned the Panamera. That’s hardly surprising. It will interesting to see if Porsche now develop a two door 911 ev equivalent based on the J1 platform. The demand would be massive surely?
I agree that this will very likely be the direction for mass transportation of the future. However I suspect that high end ownership will remain, privacy, exclusive access and opportunity for individualisation will be important for those that can afford it and Porsche along with others have a...

Indeed, it’s a modern click bait approach to debate … where extremism becomes fashionable and illogical tribalism results. Our passion for cars and different brands is really about preference and reinforcing our desire or purchase decision. A first world problem indeed, after all once a car...
Agreed - and so for me there’s little point of buying a Turbo or Turbo S. The 0-60 times are for me, and I expect many others, an irrelevance. It’s handling design and quality of materials and of build. One matter that does really bug is the Taycan’s width. Wider than a Panamara and even a...
I’m so not impressed by drag race results. For me anything close to 5s is more than enough for a daily driver. Plaid and Turbo S acceleration times result in cars that are more like loaded weapons. The Porsche is streets ahead in build quality handling and looks. I know people will compare...
I had an early i3 with range extender. Truly innovative. And fun to drive. Great for narrow U.K. roads. I’m not into Tesla’s design though Model S is ok, it’s as expensive as the base Taycan with too few colours and poor interior choices. Whether you love it or not Models S is unavailable...
Do I want a Mercedes S class? No. So Lucid current offering doesn’t appeal. I want a sporting vehicle with 4 useable seats. Porsche range is sufficient for 95% of miles I drive without charging. So Taycan range is acceptable and for me rarely an issue.
Lucid looks like a great car but not...
I very much agree that the race to ‘ludicrous’ 0-60 times is frankly dangerous. In nearly any normal driving conditions away from a track 0-60 time of anything under 4s is really nuts and in most hands dangerous.
Excellent summary. And I agree only the fortunate few will enjoy either car but used cars will be cheaper in just a few years time. And if you apply the logic of basic utility across everything the world becomes a very grey dull place, a little sunshine helps make life worthwhile.
I had an early i3 which was strong on one pedal driving and the frustration for me was not being able to ‘freewheel’. The Porsche Taycan lets you do this and apply the regen brake through the brake pedal which to me makes a lot of sense.
