With CarPlay and android apps extending the phone, I wonder how critical native infotainment is? Vs a common set of APIs that improve the phone integration. My phones map software, and music software will win every time against native apps. And the MY25 doesn’t seem to need pre condition as much which was the only reason I touched the native Navigation…I could see this - all the auto guys have their strengths - it would be awesome to ditch Porsche's software but keep their Mechanical engineering…
I guess I could drop my phone in the river by mistake or something and be without it for a trip… but other than handling exceptions native infotainment seems like a joke at least in the US. It also takes a lot less hardware to extend and present a ui that is largely powered by a phone, vs running the whole system. Feels like car vendors that define a clean set of integration points for the Apple and Google folks to work with would win. They could give the consumer a cheap phone for less than running their own platform as an option.
