The range specified by BMW is far from the reality. I did a testdrive and was very disappointed. 28 kwh/100km av. with no speeding, max speed 110km/h on high way (70% of test drive), no acceleration tests, 10˚C distance of 200km
Not a good sign for sure... but on the other hand a single test drive can give you a good or bad outlier in pretty much any EV. We'll have to see what this looks like once people actually own them and have driven say 10k+ miles. Drives me nuts when media drives a car for 100 miles and declares a number.

And to be completely honest, depending on the speed & other conditions, the Taycan also doesn't necessarily impress when it comes to range.

It's crazy isn't it. When you really look at it, you realise what a complete mess of a design it is and wonder what the hell the designers are doing, or do they each get 30cm square to work on?

The big grill I can kind of look past but the rest of it, no way. I am looking for two new cars and BMW should be at the top of the list but I haven't even bothered to go into their showroom (though I must admit the BMW M5 CS would be on the list if I was looking at pure petrol car). I even went into an Audi showroom the other day.
Not only were they each given 30 cm, they also ditched lots of common sense/best practice and were not told to make sure their 30cm has any sort of transition to the next 30 cm :)

Took Bmw I4 M50 for a first drive today, being the owner of a Taycan 4S since december 2020. This is my findings, confirming that most of us made the right decision to buy a Taycan?

Taycan 4S, Pro
The best looking EV
A true EV, several compromise’s on the Bmw.
Air suspension, Bmw front suspension is not. 4S with 21” is more comfortable than Bmw with 19”.
Gravity, Taycan is lower and cornering is better
Instrumentation more luxurious feel and look
Configuration opportunities more extensive
On acceleration, the 4S maintain the balance of the car
More space, it’s a bigger car
Gearbox

Bmw I4 M50, Pro
Half the price of a 4S and more power, depending on config, but that’show mine ended up
Electric sound is really cool
Steering more direct, you feel the car better
Real buttons for the important functions
Ease of use interface
App connectivity
Compact, easy to drive, park and turn
Trottle responsivenes
Range of standard battery, my 4S goes 275km during winter, that’s ridiculous

My humble verdict
If you don’t care about the price and looks matters, 4S wins. More value for money in the Bmw.

I actually regretted haven purchased my 4S when the I4 M50 was introduced. I don’t any longer, but I will still replace my 4S and have two Bmw’s for the same price. The last real car produced, a used low mileage M3 E92 high rev V8 and a practical and sensible I4 M50. I am getting old?

Could not disagree more on instrumentation and overall feel. Even though I love my Taycan Turbo after almost two years of ownership, I can't help thinking maybe I should get a BMW M50 like my Husband just did! It drives beautifully, and looks awesome! Get's better "gas" mileage than my car so far, approaching 300 miles! The ride is not as wafty as the Taycan/Rolls, but a more sporty feel. Interior is superior to Porsche, unless you insist on animal leather appointments. The price is ridiculously low, but I assume "we" are trying to kill off Tesla...
Looking at trading for another Turbo before the parts bin is empty, but this BMW makes me think twice.
