this thread is now a bit old - nothing wrong with it - but simply update it to include the Gen3 Tesla Universal Wall Charger - it supports powersharing like the Gen2 stuff - but has the added benefit of being an NACS/J-1772 charger - 48 amp max power (60 amp breaker) and upto 6 units sharing an overall capacity - so lots and lots of goodness…

Technically 48A was a downgrade in capabilities from Gen1/Gen2, so perhaps not an "added goodness". ;)

agreed - but Gen2/Gen3 are strong products for price/value/quality/availability - but I hear you.

I'd think most people coming from non-EVs will do exactly that. But there's lots of EV fans that frequent forums like this. The vast majority of Taycan buyers will just wall mount the charger, and charge to 100% every day.

I'll possibly eventually be looking at dual-charging solutions, but for now I'll charge my car as needed and the wife's will be the one plugged in overnight (since once offices open up, she's the one with the long commute).

Tesla models won't be considered until they ship with J-1772 connectors without an adapter. And that's years away before Tesla will have to abandon their custom connectors in the US.
this didn't age well

it should be noted Gen2 Tesla Wall Chargers are no longer sold "new" - but can be had on the "used" market

but the Tesla Universal Wall Charger (Gen3) is both a NACS/J-1772 EVSE and supports power sharing - you can have upto 6 Tesla Wall Charters Gen3 (universal or otherwise) sharing upto 200 amps of circuit power - each of the 6 Wall chargers are limited to a maximum of 48 amps (60 amp breaker) - also the Wall Charers "negotiate" the power sharing wirelessly - and therefore are easier to "network" with each other vs. Gen2 which required 18g 2-wire to communicate…

the overall sentimate is still teh same however - multi-EV/hybrid households can benefit from multiple EV chargers "sharing" a single circuit at fixed capacity - and Tesla's EVSE's are some of the best on the market - I think my original posting has aged well given all that we now know 4 years later with the PMC+/PMCC showing their true colors (I know post #64 was not calling me out)

but while Gen2 Tesla Wall chargers are no longer a thing - the Gen3 Universal Wall charger for north america is one of the best Wall mounted EVSE's available on the north american market…and the overall advice about a Powersharing EV home charging setup remains an option for many people if they want to go that way.
