Weight is the Taycan's biggest drawback. But let's say Porsche over-engineered many aspects of the car (though clearly not battery cooling). Are the suspension components beefier than they need to be? After 7000 miles and 6 track days my alignment is off from dead center by less than the margin...
The 12V battery in my 2012 model S was about the size of a PowerSports (motorcycle / PWC) battery. Much smaller than typical ICE starter battery. Quite possible they increased the size since then - but yes mine died in < 2 years the first time and closer to 3 years the second time. Both times...
Or, Plaid buyers won't option FSD...? Maybe you have one key for when you want to drive Plaid like what you paid for, safety score be damned. The other key is for when you want your Elonmobile to drive you around, hopefully safely. Someone will figure out way to game the safety score. Me...
One could hope that those who can afford a Taycan would have a degree of maturity exceeding that of your typical Facebook political debate. And for the most part we do. There are a lot of strong opinions on this thread, and some of the posts are dancing on the verge of uncivil - but only...
I maintain a 220 gallon saltwater reef tank and go SCUBA diving when I can (which isn't often). Golf and tennis, and I love watching big budget brain dead action and sci-fi movies (I will tolerate a movie that makes you think as long as it checks the big budget, heavy action, or sci-fi theme -...
Turning down the charge current will reduce the heat in the enclosed (but pretty) PMCC wall box. But should you ever decide to upgrade to a 350 kW DC fast charger in your garage, at least you know that #1 AWG will still be overkill.
I plugged in my 2012 Model S every night for the 8 years / 100,000 miles I owned it, with a target charge at around 80%, except for any long trips where I would charge to 100%. At the end, the maximum range (according to the computer) had declined from 265 to 245 miles at 100%. Plugging in daily...
All true. It's heavy. But it's surprisingly quick despite it's weight. If Porsche could get, say, 1500 lbs out of the car, it would be an absolute beast!
I just resigned myself to reading this entire thread. OK I stopped reading and started skimming about half way through. There are three types of people posting on this thread:
1) Taycan owners who love their car
2) Soon to be Taycan owners who will soon love their car
3) Everyone else
For...
Why would you say the understeer comment is surprising? It's not going to oversteer with four wheel drive, and it's got a fairly even weight distribution. The understeer coming out of a turn is completely predictable.
As for the tire wear, yup. It's a heavy car.
It was handy when we were first married and broke AF. That is no longer the case, and she is partly to thank. Now it's time to enjoy what we've worked for. At least that's my side of the story...
It's interesting how much better the Tesla experience was prior to the release of the model 3. My P85 was #1043 manufactured and was delivered December 2012. In the first three years I had a few early-model issues, all of which were fixed by the local Tesla service center who set a new and...
Software X on hardware Y should always work the same for every X+Y specimen. When it does not, that's either because there are in fact subtle differences between the hardware (e.g. calibration of analog components, tolerances, quality control) that exceed what the software was designed for, or...
Remember you see maybe ten or tens of owners with problems here. You don't hear from the thousands without problems. Is that still an unacceptably high number of owners with problems - yes - but the risk-reward is still very much in your favor. It would be a serious shame to miss out on what...
