I have zero interest in returning to an IC engined car for road use.
I have kept a plug in hybrid but only because the Taycan is stupidly wide for some of my requirements. I have a sports car for a bit of fun, and a 2 seater EV is so far likely to be much too heavy to consider owning for that...
I have never had a spinning blue circle in the PCM screen.
I have had the occasional time the app thinks the car is not available, probably 3 times in the last 2 years maybe. I don't use cloud services afaik, and avoid using non-driving software or phone while driving ever since the TRL found...
I think that in general for most customers cars are appliances they need rather than something they get pleasure from driving.
If Porsche had stayed with just sports cars instead of embracing SUVs they wouldn't exist any more.
People like me who like cars for the driving and don't care about...
Me too but AWD makes more sense in an EV for balanced regenerative braking, so I have changed my preference.
I had zero interest in AWD with IC engined cars though.
It does 13mpg not only because it is a V8, it has supremely bad aerodynamics and ridiculously heavy too.
An electric version with any acceptable efficiency at all would be quite a challenge.
Do you find the rubber strap comfortable?
I had one on a Panerai and it got wet and uncomfortable in summer.
I ended up wearing a bracelet when hot and a leather strap otherwise.
I hope people’s battery fears are pessimistic.
I bought a Toyota Prius hybrid in 2005 out of interest and liked it and kept it.
The magazines were full of criticism of concern about battery life and replacement cost back then too.
I “sold” it to my daughter 6 years ago and she is still using...
I have to admit that at midnight on 31/12/1999 I was looking at the centrury display on my IWC daVinci knowing it only moves once per century...
It came with a little wax sealed phial in the packaging containing parts needed to updaye it in 2200...
I prefer either a perpetual calendar or no calendar, personally.
I have these older mechanical perpetuals
And this is my daily, not a good picture of the watch but my youngest grand-daughter is in there ;)
I have kept my smaller, lighter sports car but really don’t go for a drive just for fun often nowadays and because the Taycan was new last summer I took that instead.
The Taycan hides its weight fairly well because of lots of wide band power and massive tyres but the size is a major shortcoming...
It appeals to me too. A Renault 5 was the first new car I bought around 1974 and I loved it. I eventually sold it to Lord Hesketh whilst I worked at Hesketh Racing for his wife to use!
Not sure my wife is suited to an EV, she often forgot to charge our cordless landline handset and her mobile is...
It does seem to be a problem mainly in the English language internet. I see poor investment in infrastructure in US and UK but not in mainland Europe and Scandinavia so I don’t know if they are getting the same level of misinformation we are.
Certainly not here in the UK where Tesla isn’t much of a controversial subject compared to EVs in general.
It is a right wing press led disinformation spread here and so strong now the government is abandoning a lot of green initiatives because they think it is a vote winner.
Theyhaven’t got...
Oil companies are very rich and have funded the spread of disinformation for ages in a similar way to the tobacco companies in the past.
People believe what they want to far more readily than facts.
People choose a newspaper to have their opinion confirmed rather than read facts that conflict...
I loved the look of the 993 when it came out and considered changing my TVR Griffith for one but the test drive was disappointing, the Carrera had less power and weighed around 300kg more than the TVR so felt really slow. I waited to try the turbo which had so much lag it was hateful on my most...
The thing is in those countries with few regulations, or unenforced regulations, all mining takes scant notice of safety and minors working - it has been going on for decades with diamonds and gold and still is, picking out lithium or cobalt is dishonestly political IMO.
Plus in those countries...
Yes I used the original that I got in 1971 extensively as a spectating fan and also doing corner times out on the circuit once I had started working in it.
Only accurate to 1/5 sec but it is a button press as well and fine for what i used it for.
Back then the official times were done by people...
These are 3 of my Speedmasters, in order of age and shows the size fashion development. Much though I like the meteorite dial on the latest one it is too big to enjoy wearing, IMO.
It turns out there are only around a dozen of the “racing” version of the speedy this old so it is so valuable I...
Wow, a mechanical delight but far too big for my taste.
I have hated the fashion for larger and larger wristwatches and am relieved it is moving a bit back to normal size.
I got an Omega Speedmaster Professional for my 21st birthday in 1971 and it was disappointingly larger than most other...
