Tesla recalls 158,000 Model S and X cars

The actual "joke" is that Tesla owners are getting their fix and Porsche owners are not. (i.e. 12V battery problem which renders the Taycan immobile on highways) Who, exactly, do we need to make that "request" of Porsche? I would much rather have a manufacturer suffer the embarassment of a...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

One of the major problems, is its even not that easy to set favorites for chargers which ARE known to the Porsche database! Even if you push down the specific address of a charging station FULLY KNOWN to the Porsche database, you must still CONVERT it while sitting in the car. IOW: While the...

That makes me feel very sorry for your MS90D... We originally planned on selling our Model-X once we took delivery of our Turbo S. After a few weeks with our Taycan, we decided to keep the Model X.

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

Yup, that would be helpful! Bear in mind that NOT EVEN the chargers the database KNOWS ABOUT can be identified by their exact address. Stupid software forces us to "find nearby chargers" even for chargers that ARE in the database. When I haven't done this, stupid software has tried to reroute...

Note that there will be difference in what is displayed depending on what type of chargers you ask to be listed. Asking for the "Porsche Charging Service" only shows chargers that included in the Porsche Payment Network.

Its all about those "three little dots"... Once your identify your downloaded 'favorite' in the PCM/Nav, you now have to click on the three little dots on the right side of its entry. Then select "Nearby charging stations" and then "Porsche Charging Service". Once the SAME address is...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

Yup, I know those exist. You will have many more options available if you have a charger with a 3-prong plug (NEMA 6-50) on it though. There is no magic required, no artificial limitations, no legal disclaimers, etc. You will note the product disclaimer "ONLY for Tesla UMC or Other EV...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

ABRP is pretty much the accepted standard for Travel Planning with any EV. The Porsche stuff is pretty useless. They don't even supply a method to plan a trip until you actually sit down in the car! ...and by that time its much too late and you leave yourself in the hands of the onboard...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

IOW: If you option the NEMA 6-50 (3-prong) cable on the PMCC you are going to be able to find many more generic adapters for alternate sockets (inc NEMA 14-50) than if you option the NEMA 14-50 (4-prong) cable... The reverse is also true... IMHO: All your sockets (in your garage) should be...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

Its not so much whether any charger actually USES the neutral wire... It is more of a consideration that most OTHER equipment which has a 4-prong plug MIGHT very well be using the neutral wire. As such, very few companies which make generic adapter plugs are going to risk all the legal and...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

Although I agree with this completely, many Taycan owners are already past the point of owning the device. Personally, I would never suggest it as an optimal solution, but perhaps we can help folks make the best of what they already have (like suggesting a NEMA 6-50 plug which can be...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

Have you tried acquiring different cables/plugs for it? ...or are you using plug adapters? ...did you option the 3-prong cable (NEMA 6-50 or NEMA 6-30) or the 4-prong cable (NEMA 14-50) with your car? For folks who want to use the the PMCC with max flexibility, I think its important that...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

I'm guessing it was some sort of a "safety check"... I don't really have anything "against" the PMCC. Comparatively, I simply think its way too expensive and not quite as flexible as the Mustart Travelmaster. (In fact, in threads where folks were blaming the 12V battery failure on the PMCC I...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

In all fairness, the GROUND is not typically used for anything other than a protective channel for "misguided" power to flow away rather than through a person. It really serves no electromotive purpose on a "normally" functioning electrical circuit. That is what the "Neutral" is for. (Even...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

I've had the TravelMaster for a couple of years (well before the Taycan). The Mustart Travelmaster supports both 120 and 220/240V (32A) charging (like the PMCC) and has a collection of different charging cables/plugs which can be attached. Each add-on cable/plug is relatively inexpensive (...

(I Posted this to another thread, and will edit my initial post above for completeness) Here is a tip to help make the onboard Nav a bit more useful on long trips: There is a fairly useless insert on the Nav screen which will show you a green line and the next two charging stops you have...

Road Trip Planning Guide (Recommendations from a 1400 mile trip in two travel days)

I just finished a 1400 mile trip with my Taycan Turbo S in two days of travel. I did a lot of research up front and was pretty well prepared. I read @louv's ENTIRE trip thread. The Taycan is my fourth EV in the last 6 years (of which I still have my BMW i8 and Tesla Model-X) and I've never...
