  1. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Let’s hope so. Tesla seems to have “inspired” some bad trends in the auto industry including this over focus on 0-60 times. Credit to them for playing to their strengths but it’s getting ridiculous.
  2. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

I appreciate the better space utilization of the model s. Given similar dimensions, they somehow manage more passenger/cargo/storage room than say a cross turismo. In pics I think I might prefer the airier interior design as well as maybe the better UI (except the yoke wheel of course). The...
  3. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Yep. Along the same lines another possibility is slight configuration differences. Most modern cars have some type of "configuration file(s)" that tells the software in the vehicle which features are active, the region its in, etc. So, with a different config the software could be executing a...
  4. 911 to Taycan?

Interesting- I'm surprised a dealer ordered such a highly specced base car for inventory. Most RWDs i've seen in inventory have topped out in the high 90s. Maybe it was a custom order that someone abandoned...
  5. Tesla's "rollout" 0-60

Yep. I'd say if you want a metric that will give you a rough sense of acceleration feel for comparison sake, pick a source that tests 5-60 (car and driver for example) and compare those times. That'll give you atleast a relative sense of how various cars will feel when you step on it from a...
  6. Tesla's "rollout" 0-60

YEah clearly they just wanted to be the first to advertise a sub 2 second car.
  7. Tesla's "rollout" 0-60

Yeah, personally, I dont' really care about the rollout. I kind of just assume any 0-60 time is adjusted like that. (and frankly, this whole debacle is another example of why 0-60 is such a ridiculous metric). But, it seems that they didn't adjust for rollout on the regular long range thus...
  8. Taycan 4S versus 3 "Super" Sedans

Yep. I did a similar comparison but with the taycan RWD vs 840, etc. similar results. For once it looks like Porsche may be the bargain the segment! And these are adtuallly the cars I think the taycan competes against rather than Tesla, etc. I know the taycan is the only EV that I’d currently...
  9. Model 3 vs. Taycan Turbo S Track Race

Fair, fact-based, and well-reasoned posts like this are one of the reasons I enjoy this forum. Pretty unusual in my experience. The model 3 is an impressive vehicle for the price even if I have no desire to own one.
  10. BMW i4

As a former BMW fan, I'm not into the large grilles either. The other day a friend of mine (who is in his early 30s) texted me out of the blue and was like "I love the new M4". I thought he was trolling me but he was actually serious. So...maybe BMW knows what they are doing and attracting a...
  11. Switching from Telsa Model S to Taycan 4S. Feedback from anyone who has done this?!

Yep, I bet Porsche could, fairly easily, enable Carplay's "second screen output" on the instrument cluster display with a software update. But given the odd shape, it would probably look funny or they'd have to "letterbox" it to make it fit. Even so, I think most people would accept that to...
  12. Switching from Telsa Model S to Taycan 4S. Feedback from anyone who has done this?!

Yep - the model s was compelling when it was the only game in town for a good looking EV with good range. Now there are more options. Makes it harder to overlook the faults
  13. Switching from Telsa Model S to Taycan 4S. Feedback from anyone who has done this?!

Even as a techy, the tech in Teslas doesn't really interest or impress me. I'd never trust Tesla's autopilot to do the things they claim it can do so regular adaptive cruise control is fine with me. Other than that, what do they have that's actually useful or unique? Built-in video games...
  14. Tesla admits FSD is a pipe dream

Yep - good lane centering and full range adaptive cruise are nice to have in stop and go traffic or long highway runs. Whenever I read tesla forums or watch youtube videos from Tesla fans, i get the sense that many of them don't realize that these technologies are quite common on other cars now...
