Sad news from the Nurburgring

A test driver and his co-driver from Goodyear were killed during a closed industry test session at the Tiergarten section of the track.

They were driving a 911 Carrera S, and had run over some debris, which burst a tyre and causing them to lose control. The car apparently then went into a terrible high speed multi-impact roll, throwing the occupants out of the vehicle in the process. Pretty terrible.

I was lucky enough to drive and be driven around the ring in a gt3rs last year. What an incredible and scary experience, years of video game ring time does it no justice

Putting this in context, there is *no* suggestion that these chaps (professionals employed to presumably test tyres at the limit) were driving carelessly. Reports suggest that the car ran over debris (from another vehicle) which led to a puncture of one and perhaps more than one one tyre, and instantaneous blowout and loss of control.

As said we don't know the full details of what transpired, but I think it's a touch heartless to say glibly that people should "drive more carefully", given the circumstances of their jobs, the track and what happened on the day.
