"Volkswagen says its core VW brand is ‘no longer competitive’ financially" - Article

They killed the brand a few years back when they started cutting corners on the Golf VIII, and then drum brakes on their ID4, cheap plastics, no leds for HVC controls... And then there's the state of dealers (can only talk for Europe)... a disgrace. Did we mention that while they were cutting...

    Taycan or Panamera?

If you still love your existing Panamera, why don't you get an extended warranty from Porsche? It costs around $3k for 2 years

"VW delays new Porsche Macan EV platform, cuts jobs as software struggles persist" - Article

Had a CT for 20 months, sold it a few weeks ago and took a big hit on depreciation. The car was ultimately too heavy, something that I could feel, particularly driving at legal speeds, and too long to use in many places in Europe. Got fed up with repeated trips to dealer for PCM not working...

    Schoolboy error

it'd would be amusing if the UPS guy left the package on your "Porch" Taycan..., with the usual proof of delivery photo. "Package is on your car, as requested"

new Cayenne interior with Taycan implications…

AFAIK, the "special coating" on the passenger screen that prevents the driver from seeing it is not used in the Tacans passenger display. Without it, there's exactly a zero chance Porsche will enable it. What's more likely IMHO, is that they'll enable video streaming services for the centre...

MB EQE SUV vs. Waiting for Macan EV

Looks aside, the real question is whether you’d be willing to sacrifice the driving dynamics of a Porsche for the MB. 5700lbs is very heavy and not surprising given the weight of MB’s EVs. The macan ICE is known for best in class handling, the MB SUVs sit at the other end of the spectrum. I...

HAGERTY's Taycan vs 911 review - by Henry Catchpole

don’t think for a second that the 911 and the Taycan are interchangeable. I’ve owned both and I regret selling my last 911, now with Taycan missing mostly the 911’s reliability, lightness, RWD, and the emotional attachment I had to it which the Taycan hasn’t been able to emulate. The Taycan...

HAGERTY's Taycan vs 911 review - by Henry Catchpole

Ironically the GT-designed 911 models are the real sports cars. But I’d wager that >95% of 911 sold are not Gt3, GT3RS or GTS cars, so as a whole I completely agree with your point that 911 are no longer in the sports car category

Porsche 718 Boxster convertible EV spotted charging at 170kw rate

The questions for me are whether they’ve improved the fun factor (and I don’t mean a new fake sound), and how heavy it is. Taycan can somewhat be forgiven on these aspects as it has a more practical use (family hauling, long distance driving, etc) but when buying a Boxster top of the list are...

Giles Coren ditches his iPace for a petrol car

I also had an I-Pace; a fully loaded *refreshed* 2021 version bought in December 2020. The car was constantly breaking down; cameras, phantom emergency brakes, broken seat ventilation, car wouldn't charge, etc. I am not kidding, the car went back to dealer 1 month after I bought it, had in the...

Volkswagen Pivots To MEB+ Platform — 700 Km Range, 200 KW Charging - Article link

that makes sense if the battery cell degradation is not uniform; i.e. your degradation is 8%, but some specific cells have 30% degradation. Even then that would imply needing to replace 8%/30% = 27% of your battery cells... that's still a likely $10k bill once Porsche mechanics have had a go

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

A year ago, my *Porsche dealer* bid ~$60k sight unseen on my 2012 911 C2 with 185k kms that was lightly optioned... sold it there and then. I don't think it would be getting more than $45-50k for it now in the same condition.

Volkswagen Pivots To MEB+ Platform — 700 Km Range, 200 KW Charging - Article link

I think the next big thing with batteries is degradation performance; battery charging speed (at least on Taycan, Hyundai/KIA) is fine. What's not so fine is the ±8-10% degradation in 50k Kms. Batteries should be more resilient than that.

Can The Porsche Taycan REALLY Beat The 911? -- Drag Race & Track Battle

If I were considering a new sports car, I think I would skip the 911 and go straight for a Lotus Emira which weighs less than a 911, and is much smaller in proportions. I had a 991 911 and I just can’t like the 992 for its obese proportions, and its ridiculous rear spoiler when it upright...

    911 Dakar a.k.a. Taycan CT tribute edition😁

I'm sure the race-driven and well-worn 959 Dakar cars have at least as much value as the potential garage queens 959 Dakar. I loathe the garage queen cars; Ferrari owners keeping their cars in a garage and whose pleasure is to rub their cars on Sunday with a diaper, and maybe take it out 6...

    911 Dakar a.k.a. Taycan CT tribute edition😁

Id' love a Rothmans-like wrap for the taycan, looks amazing. On a broader note, public roads are becoming increasingly frustrating to use cars on. Track days are fun but IMHO a little repetitive. The real fun is to be had off-road weather in the desert (as her in Morocco) or on frozen lakes in...

Traded Taycan 4 CT for EQS 450 4Matic SUV

I agree that Mercedes has come a long way in a short period of time with their electric cars. I’ve never really liked the modern design of their ICE cars which I jokingly refer to “sagging bananas” (look at the bottom of the window line ) but their EQ line has a distinctive look which has grown...

    Maserati Folgore

Haha. That’s what some people would call “leasing”. If the lease payments fit your budget (or the company’s) then it’s not really a consideration (although higher depreciation should be reflected in lease payments, but manufacturers are known to manipulate lease depreciation factors to make...

    Maserati Folgore

You're probably right. I know the TTS can sit at 270kmh until its battery is drained. I wonder how long the Maserati can sustain 300kmh, and whether it will cut power (thus reducing speed) before the battery is drained. That would be another way to do this, which I think Porsche would never...
