@submatrix If your parent's Wallbox is indeed on a 30A circuit, the max your or any other vehicle will draw is 6.6kW.
Perhaps your parents are mentioning the Bolt's L2 charging maximum power, as opposed to stating actual observed?
In order for them to observe max L2 charging speeds for the...
Regarding using the roofbox clamps, I think (?) that would work. You should check them for lateral strength. IIRC when they are not engaged in clamping they are a bit floppy and I don't recall if there's much holding them in place if they were to be getting pulled outward by the two rings at the...
Interesting. Would you have enough space above your garage door if the roofbox is on its side? Do you have your roofbox already? FYI the overlapping sides of the PPRB clamshell are relatively flimsy compared to the ribbed underside, you might not want those carrying weight for long periods of time.
For #1 above, I believe what you mean, is that you'd position the lift and lifted roofbox between the garage door belt and one of the garage door rails, in a way that the roofbox can be lowered and raised without contacting the belt or rail. If that's what you mean, I think that's the better...
Bummer - yes your ceiling is too low to mount overhead, and even offset to the center between 2 cars sounds awkward.
A couple of other options:
I received my PPRB before I had my Taycan and the Garage Smart lifting gear. For a while I had the roofbox mounted vertically on my slatwall with 2...
It's about three feet off of the center-line of the garage door / parked Taycan. I had to place it there to avoid the PPRB bumping into my garage door opener.
Lowering it and 'swinging' it onto the car is doable - it was a bit tricky until I got the knack of it.
Here's what I do:
I lower the...
@TDinDC Attached are a couple of photos, and I shall share some measurements and tips.
My garage ceiling is 11 feet high over a lightly sloped floor. As shown here, my roof box is 44 inches from the ceiling at its lowest point. It could probably be raised another 2 or 3 inches.
Some tips...
By distance do you mean the length of SmartTrack? The extension of the lifting frame? Let me know and I shall happily measure anything you need. I'll grab some photos too.
@TDinDC I have the GarageSmart system and am mostly happy with it. I have the Universal XL lifter for my Porsche Performance roofbox, the multi bike lifter, powerdrop and airdrop.
I assume that Porsche's recommendation against L1 is more due to the variability of quality and load rating of home wiring. The concern would be that the supply cable feeding the EVSE's NEMA 5-15 socket likely has other things connected to it; that it hasn't been selected for running full tilt...
This is a CAN bus attack. The attacker needs physical access to CAN bus wiring in order to use an injection device. In the article, the thieves went in via the Toyota RAV4's headlight. I don't know how accessible the Taycan's CAN/LIN bus wiring is but seems like they'd have to work pretty hard...
There was the exact same concern about Dieselgate and holding out became an issue for people - service departments were obligated to perform the fix, in some US states it was an issue with renewing inspection stickers. If this is a settlement and didn’t get entangled in federal regulation, then...
Guess it’s a real thing:

@4thPcar Beware of phishing exploits taking advantage of the situation. If they are asking for, say, your Social Security Number, perhaps look for a more official way to...
It supports power line communication as an alternative to WiFi (requires PLC on the other side), but not sure if it can operate with zero networking. Arguably connectivity is desirable in order to benefit from software updates.
@daveo4EV It took quite a while but I finally got my PWCC fully installed! Here is my post for the unboxing and install, with photos and tips for other prospective buyers:
