Maybe, but I bet the Taycan will keep the current transmission through the J1.2 update. My favorite quote from an Automobile mag Taycan prototype review:
They must have seriously reworked the power delivery mechanism to not have a transmission in the Mission R.
IMO, I think the auto industry may be going through a transition, just like the phone market did when the iPhone was released. If you remember, at the time other phone makers scoffed at Apple’s entry, saying “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.”...
That’s exactly my setup. We’ll likely get another EV next year and wanted to future proof the garage. Since I’ll likely never charge from 0 -> 100% SoC in my garage, the Taycan’s existing charge rate is fine for me.
Nice - the Mini looks very cool! I’m thinking about getting one of those for my better half next year. Both of us have short/no commutes after C19 has us WFH indefinitely and would love to go all electric and save our SUV for the kids to drive in a couple of years.

Tesla winning purely on price is kinda dubious. The test was Taycan v Model S, not a comparison of premium four-door EVs and they didn’t really articulate a value argument. I get that the car magazine testers don’t get the benefit of free EA for three years, but they didn’t even mention that...
